Trintech, Digital And Microsoft Break Barriers With The First Secure Payment Implementation In The UK

London - 19th May 1997 - Trintech Group, Digital and Microsoft, are now providing the first secure automated Internet payment solution in the UK. In association with Thrust's record breaking attempt, Trintech are supplying the PayWare(TM) range of payment software to Thrust, providing an automated payment mechanism which is integrated with the Microsoft Merchant Server.

When Thrust established their merchandising on the Microsoft Merchant Server, they initially implemented a manual transfer of payment details from cardholders who purchased items from the site. This involved the input of transaction details into a terminal linked to National Westminster Bank's acquiring system. Thrust approached Trintech to provide an automated payment mechanism which is integrated with the Microsoft Merchant Server.

Trintech has provided the software necessary to remove the need for manual input of credit card details. The solution in the form of PayWare(TM), accepts credit card payment requests from the Merchant Server. PayWare(TM) then securely communicates these authorisation requests to the bank and receives the banks response. A settlement file is also managed by PayWare(TM) nd sent to the bank once the merchandise is shipped to the cardholder.

This automated payment solution lets the cardholder know at the time of purchase of goods on the Internet that his payment has been authorised by the bank. The solution enables Thrust's merchants to offer goods for cardholders to purchase over the net but also provides the necessary security for acquiring banks through the use of traditional communications mechanisms between PayWare(TM) and the banks acquiring system.

"We are pleased to be associated with Thrust's record attempt. As Thrust breaks new barriers, the Trintech/Microsoft Merchant Server payment solution also breaks new barriers as the first secure automated payment implementation in the UK", said Steve Howe, Managing Director, Trintech UK. "Trintech's SET Internet payment solutions have also been chosen by a number of European internet shopping malls and retailers. Live implementations such as Thrust will serve as a catalyst to expanding e-commerce across the Internet, so to be able to provide PayWare(TM) as a secure payment solution represents a great opportunity for Trintech."
