1050 hrs

Subject to confirmation by the FIA, the ThrustSSC Team have set the first ever supersonic World Land Speed Record. 759.333/M=1.015 and 766.609mph/M=1.020 for the two runs through the measured mile. Details on the Web Site later.

0700 hrs

ThrustSSC will make two further runs this morning. Accredited members of the media wishing to attend the Press Area opposite the measured mile during ThrustSSC's runs should present themselves at Access 2 at 0730hrs.

Car

  1. ThrustSSC has reached a highest speed through the measured mile to date of 764mph on Monday 13th October 1997, a Mach number of 1.007
  2. ThrustSSC set a new Unlimited World Land Speed Record of 714.144mph on Thursday 25th September 1997
  3. The car is on the desert being prepared for the next runs of the Black Rock Campaign

Team

  1. The ThrustSSC Team settled well into life in Gerlach and on the Black Rock Desert
  2. The dust is really getting onto some people's chests, despite the use of dust masks
  3. The team are happy today after breaking the sound barrier and are looking forward to making it a supersonic record
  4. Long-stay Mach 1 Club members Ashley, Guy and Simon have had to return home having run out of vacation time (thanks for all your help!)

Weather

  1. The weather is generally cold in the morning, warming up to afternoon temperatures reaching the 70s (Fahrenheit)
  2. Dust storms are being kicked up on days with high winds
  3. Nights are bitterly cold now - winter is coming
  4. Today has started very cold with a bright sky and a light breeze
